Concentrating Fish Farm Effluent for its Nutrient Recovery via Nanofiltration

نویسندگان

چکیده

Excessive nutrients in aquaculture effluent have become an alarming environmental issue. However, current treatment methods for recovering are ineffective since the contains trace amounts of nutrients. Pressure-driven nanofiltration (NF) is a potential solution to problem low concentration gradient. In this work, NF was applied concentrate and recover (ammonium (NH4+), phosphate, (PO43-), nitrate ions (NO3-)) from synthetic real fish farm effluents. The experiments were first carried out study effect membrane type, feed concentrations, operating pressures on performance. It found that 90 able retain more nutrient but compromise with lower flux compared 270. This also revealed increase enhanced concentrating ability both PO43- NO3- reduced factor NH4+ ions. Moreover, increased pressure. actual effluents investigated under optimal conditions (NF 90, 5 bar). Surprisingly, prefiltered than raw due presence denser cake layer. could up 6.17 1.55 NH4+ions, claiming promising approach These has opportunity be reapplied as fertilizer part sustainable resource management.

Surface Irrigation of Dairy Farm Effluent, Part I: Nutrient and Bacterial Load

When handled separately from manures, dairy farm effluents (DE) are costly to manage because of their low nutrient content and large volume. In anticipation of using surface irrigation to lower the land application cost of DE, this projects investigated the impact, on DE characteristics, of different sources and storage systems. Milk house wastewaters were monitored on two farms using a 500 l m...

Bioflocculation technique for microalgal harvesting and wastewater nutrient recovery

Fungal assist microalgal cultivation is getting substantial considerations due to the highly efficiency of bioflocculation process without demanded of using chemicals and little bit energy input. Therefore, Fungi pelletization-assisted microalgal cultivation were applied for improving algal harvesting process and nutrient recovery as step wise for wastewater treatment. Two strains of marine mic...

Resilience of Coral-Associated Bacterial Communities Exposed to Fish Farm Effluent

BACKGROUND The coral holobiont includes the coral animal, algal symbionts, and associated microbial community. These microbes help maintain the holobiont homeostasis; thus, sustaining robust mutualistic microbial communities is a fundamental part of long-term coral reef survival. Coastal pollution is one major threat to reefs, and intensive fish farming is a rapidly growing source of this pollu...

Optimizing nutrient management for farm systems.

Increasing the inputs of nutrients has played a major role in increasing the supply of food to a continually growing world population. However, focusing attention on the most important nutrients, such as nitrogen (N), has in some cases led to nutrient imbalances, some excess applications especially of N, inefficient use and large losses to the environment with impacts on air and water quality, ...
